This past Earth Day, Heidi had a lot of fun completing daily challenges that got her outside and connected to nature. Head here for 100 No-Prep Camping Activities from CrusinandCampfires.
This was one of her favorite activities from that challenge and it struck me as so simple and brilliant, that I wish I had thought of it!
This activity would be fun from your front door or at any level of adventure!
PENNY WALK: Grab a coin and whenever you come to a crossroads, flip the coin to turn left or right.
Heidi’s variation was more of a “flip the coin every few steps and start walking in a new direction”.
I think this would be so fun in a campground! I always love walking the roads in a campground and admiring each camper’s set-up. This would probably appeal more to the kids as they aren’t as interested in tents, camp chairs, or twinkle lights.
I love how this activity puts the KID IN CHARGE! It’s such a safe way to pass the leadership torch on to your kid! I firmly believe that the more often we let the kids make choices in win-win situations, the more confidence they grow AND the more they listen when the adult HAS to take charge.
Another bonus is that it would help NUDGE THE EDGE for your kids on the length of walk! Unless my kids are the only ones who start whining approximately 30 seconds into a hike 😉
