Let’s face it… filling a basked with sugar brings back such wonderful childhood memories. And yet, as a parent, it’s all just fodder for being the “mean mother” and having to set limits. Granted, I typically let them overeat on Easter Sunday, but after that…ugh. SO, I like to use fun, yet practical items to fill the majority of the basket.
Here are my top recommendations to encourage your little ones to have new adventures:
*These are my Amazon affiliate links. Thank you for using them 🙂
- Kids fanny pack! ($15.99) We already have similar ones (check-out the Reel Hazel made over on our IG channel about what she packs in hers). I actually am debating purchasing two of these because that water bottle holder would be a major upgrade!
- Sunday Afternoon Kids Ultra Adventure Hat ($32) This is the BIG item in appearing in our baskets this year. You could even flip it over and use the hat as the basket itself. Oh, that would be adorable! We use sunshirts and ball caps all summer long. This is going to be a major upgrade (I’m getting one for myself too!) and perfect for our upcoming Boundary Waters canoe trip!
- Knot Tying Kit ($8.68) I like to include something that’s more of an activity that we can enjoy right away. This is going to be great preparation for the rock climbing goals we have for this year!
- Rubberneckers Game ($13.09) I actually purchased this last summer when we thought we could drive to visit Jake’s mom in South Carolina last summer. That didn’t happen because of the Covid regulations at the time, so I kept this gem hidden away. It evens out the girls’ baskets and we DO have a long drive ahead of us this year (Minnesota…here we come!).
- Light My Fire Spork ($3.99) I seem to buy these at least once a year. They’re perfect for school lunches too! Actually, the girls often opt to use their spork at the dinner table too!
- Hydro Flask 12 oz Kids Bottle ($32) Ok, this one seems like an unnecessary splurge to me. HOWEVER, the girls (ages 10 & 11) are at that stage where they are aware of brands. They’re going to be SO excited to have a “real” Hydro Flask. Also, since our school now allows kids to have water bottles at their desks, I really like the straw and rubber boot features of this bottle.
- Coghlan’s Four-Function Whistle ($3.99) At this price, buy a few of these! We already have whistles on their life vests, but now they’ll have one on their fanny packs too. I may get more for their winter and raincoats. I love that this has a thermometer on it too! The whistle gives us so much peace of mind when the girls want to hike ahead or explore independently!
Each of these items are things we already own OR we have purchased for our Easter baskets. Purchasing through our affiliate links does not cost you extra, but helps support this website. Thank you.
